“So, I’ve got this idea…”
That’s pretty much how this all got started. An idea, percolating in the back of Mark’s mind. It’s how he opened a conversation we had back in November 2018. I listened intently as he began outlining his vision for this innovative and exciting platform. Of course, I remembered how much fun it was using the earliest version of CrowdDJ at his wedding, and that was before it even had a name. Being able to vote for the songs you want to hear from your phone or a tablet placed in the reception hall? Who wouldn’t want that at their party? It really didn’t take much for me to see where this could go. Needless to say, I was sold ten minutes into the conversation.
But starting a new company from scratch, not to mention collaborating from opposite coasts? It was all uncharted territory for us. Mark, Bob and I picked apart the process, the product, the challenges and opportunities—everything. To say that we learned a lot would be an understatement. But we were driven by a singular goal: how to improve host/guest engagement during events, and provide a low-cost, easy-to-use platform to ensure an enjoyable and positive experience for anyone interested in trying something a little different. We began seeing challenges as opportunities: being in Washington, DC and San Diego opened up potential markets, and really forced us to look at the CrowdDJ player, and identify the types of improvements we could make to the unit to expand our reach beyond our immediate cities.
As with any new company, there have been a few bumps. But we’re excited about where we are now: we are Crowd Tech Group, Inc., and we’re excited to launch the CrowdDJ platform. And this is just the start. Wait ’til you see what’s next!
